Modern Language Association LogoFrom the Modern Language Association (MLA), this resource is the definitive index for the study of language, literature, linguistics, rhetoric, writing studies, folklore, film, theater, and other dramatic arts. It includes scholarly books, articles, journals, conference papers, and dissertations.

Tips for Searching MLA

  • Use limiters like Primary Subject Work and Primary Subject Author to quickly find resources that focus mainly on a particular work (like Native Son (1940)) or person (like Larsen, Nella)
  • When you find a relevant record in MLA, use the hyperlinked subjects and terms to find more results on those same topics. You can also add those terms to your searches to mimic the specific jargon and structure in MLA.
