The theme for the 63rd Academy Assembly is Preserving the City on the Hill: Rebuilding Democracy at Home and Abroad. It will focus on factors contributing to the erosion of democracy globally and the U.S. Military's role in upholding democracy.
The 63rd Academy Assembly will be held 12 - 15 October 2021 at the United States Air Force Academy. The Keynote Speakers will be Anne Applebaum, a Pulitzer prize winning journalist whose latest book, Twilight of Democracy, focuses on democracy and authoritarianism; and Larry Diamond, a Political Scientists at Stanford University who is founding co-editor of the Journal of Democracy.
This guide provides readings to spark discussion and debate during and after the Assembly. Links to free or open versions are provided when available. Access links for Air Force Academy affiliates are also provided when available. For help in accessing full text, please contact your local library.
We would like to thank Frances Scott, Social Sciences Bibliographer and Reference Librarian, who was instrumental in preparing this and over 30 previous issues of the Academy Assembly bibliography. Ms. Scott recently retired from the McDermott Library after many years of exemplary and dedicated service to the United States Air Force Academy’s faculty and cadets.
