USNORTHCOM’s area of responsibility (AOR) covers the air, land, and sea approaches to the continental U.S., Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and surrounding waters up to about 500 nautical miles. It also includes the Gulf of Mexico, Straits of Florida, and parts of the Caribbean, including The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The commander is also responsible for theater security cooperation with Canada, Mexico, and The Bahamas.
