Access to Additional Library Resources

The Department of Air Force Libraries provides access to these additional library resources.

Additional Library Electronic Resources

The Department of the Air Force (DAF) Libraries provides access to additional digital resources and collections beyond the academic-focused offerings of the McDermott Library.  This guide provides a quick overview of the electronic resources and directions on how to reach the site that offers them.  These resources and services include access to information essential to the Air Force mission, support for professional military and voluntary education programs, streaming videos, music, and much more accessible items via Base Libraries, the Department of Defense (DoD) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Libraries, and the Air Force (AF) Portal. Depending on the site accessed, the library resources are available to anyone with a current Common Access Card (CAC) or Uniformed Services Identification (USID) Card**. 

With only a few exceptions, most of the online library resources available through the AF Portal are the same as those found on DoD MWR Libraries and if selected will redirect to the DoD MWR Libraries webpage.  The exceptions for the AF Portal only are marked blue in this guide.  The resources accessible through DoD MWR Libraries only are marked dark green.  Resources accessible though the McDermott Library (with an account) are also identified.  Instructions on how to login to DoD MWR Libraries can be found further down the page.

**NOTE:  DoD CONUS contractors are not eligible to use their DoD ID to access resources on the DoD MWR Digital Library. Contractors must register for a library account at the installation MWR library and use the provided library account credentials instead of DoD ID to access resources.

The Air Force Portal

Follow these instructions to access resources 24/7 through the Air Force Portal.  A CAC is required to log into the Air Force Portal.  The following CAC holders have access:

  • Current USAFA Cadets.
  • Active duty military.
  • Members of the Reserve components and National Guard.
  • DoD Civilians.

The library and other resources can be found under the LIBRARY & RESOURCES tab.

To see a dropdown list of available of online resources, hover the pointer over the LIBRARY & RESOURCES tab. To access the library Online Resources, either click on the LIBRARY & RESOURCES tab or click on the first item showing in the dropdown menu - "Online Resources"

 

Clicking on the LIBRARY & RESOURCES tab brings you to this page.  Click on ONLINE RESOURCES to expand the list of resource categories.  If you clicked "Online Resources" from the dropdown menu from the previous instructions you'll automatically be taken to resource categories page.

      • The Online Resources Home link is a list of all the available Online Resources.
      • The other links show a list of grouped resources according to the category type.
      • Selecting any of the resources from this list takes you directly the DoD MWR Libraries page where you'll be asked to log in to the DoD MWR Libraries site in order to access the resource. Information about DoD MWR Libraries can be found above.

Help with the Air Force Portal

Any questions about or problems accessing the Air Force Portal should be directed to the Air Force Portal Help Desk.

The online Air Force Portal Help System can be accessed via the HELP link at the bottom of each page.  If the online help system does not answer your question, contact the Help Desk at:

DoD Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Libraries

DoD MWR Libraries provides access to library resources from the military service libraries in one place and is available 24/7. Either a CAC or a Uniformed Services Identification (USID) Card is required to login to the DoD MWR Library website.  The following CAC and USID card holders have access:

  • Current USAFA Cadets.
  • Active duty military.
  • Members of the Reserve components and National Guard.
  • Retired military, including retired from the Reserves and National Guard.
  • Medal of Honor recipients and veterans with 100% service-connected disabilities.
  • Eligible family members who are officially sponsored (ID card holder) by authorized patrons in the above categories.
  • DoD and Coast Guard civilians, including appropriated and non-appropriated fund employees, when stationed outside the United States; stateside eligibility contingent upon resource availability.

Once you set up a profile on this website and you have existing accounts for Overdrive or Mango Languages, you can link those accounts.  Follow the directions in the "Managing Your Accounts" information on the website.

To access the resources, go to the website and click "Login" on the upper right side of the screen.

You will be prompted for your DoD ID number (found on your ID card) and your birthdate to validate your eligibility.
